This cry is ringing out all around the earth today, from many people in many countries, in many varied circumstances, and for many varied reasons. I want to look at some of these people, and the reasons for their cries, and God’s reply to them.
First let us consider the persecuted churches around the world, as they cry out “Where are you God?” Churches in countries antagonistic to our God, and to His Son Jesus Christ.
Churches where God’s children, and God’s chosen people, live in constant danger of many and varied forms of persecution, ranging from discrimination when applying for jobs, housing, education etc, or the burning down of their churches and schools and homes, to false witnesses whose lies cause their imprisonment, beatings, rape, torture, and even death.
Churches where they are forced to flee for their lives from brutal and godless enemies who want to torture, rape, and force them into marriage or sexual slavery and bondage. These churches are crying out in agony of soul “Where are you God?”
Jesus says to them in Rev 2:9 “I have knowledge of your troubles and how poor you are but you have true wealth, v:10 Have no fear of the things which you will have to undergo: see, the Evil One will send some of you into prison, so that you may be put to the test; and you will have great trouble for ten days. Be true till death, and I will give you the crown of life.”
Then there are churches where the people are so poor they cannot afford enough food for their children, cannot afford medicine or inoculations against common diseases. Churches where parents whose children get sick, can only watch helplessly and cry for their children as they die of starvation, or measles or malaria because they cannot afford the food or medication that would save their lives. “Where are you God?” must surely be the cry wrung from their hearts and souls, as they know full well that many in the rich nations around the world continue to gluttonise and pamper themselves with everything they want. Jesus says to them in Rev 22:7 “Behold, I am coming quickly: blessed is he that keeps the sayings of the prophecy of this book.”
“Where are you LORD?” In every church, and in every denomination, and all around the world today, God has His “Chosen” ones, Mat 22:14 “For many are called, but FEW are chosen.” These chosen ones are the “True Church” of Jesus Christ. This is the Church that is agonising over and reaching out to the lost, praying for their enemies, sharing with, and caring for the poor and needy, helping bear the burden of the sick, the weak, the widows, and the lonely, and watching each day for their bridegroom to appear.
These chosen ones are Jesus bride to be, and they are crying out “Where are you LORD?” in anticipation of His return to the clouds to call us up to be with Him forever. These are the ones who are longing to be with their bridegroom. These are the ones who are watching and waiting for the translation of their bodies as seen in 1 Cor 15:52 “In a moment, in the blink of an eye, at the last trump: the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and WE SHALL be changed. 1 Cor 15:53 For this corruptible body must put on incorruption, and this mortal body must put on immortality.”
Jesus reply to His bride to be in 1 Pet 4:7 is “The end of all things is NEAR: so be serious in your behaviour and keep on the watch with prayer; 1 Pet 4:8 And most of all be warm in your love for one another; because in love there is forgiveness for sins without number:” Rev 22:20 “He who testifies these things says, SURELY I COME QUICKLY.” Mat 24:42 “Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come.” Mat 24:46 “Blessed is that servant, whom when his lord comes shall find so doing.”
Then there are the churches whose cry is NOT “Where are you LORD?” This church is crying out “Don’t come yet LORD” we are having ourselves a good time. This is the cry of many of the end times churches, the wealthy churches from the wealthy nations, many of whom have never experienced hardship, or persecution, and as a result have grown soft, self indulgent, sinful, selfish, careless and proud.
Many of these churches do not share with the poor and needy, many do not give to Missions, many do not even believe much of God’s Word or fulfill God’s command to love one another as He loves us.
To these Churches Jesus says in Rev 3:17 “You say, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and you don’t even know that you are wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked: v 18 I counsel you to buy from Me gold tried in the fire, that you may be rich; and white garments, that you may be clothed that the shame of your nakedness do not appear; and anoint your eyes with eyesalve, that you may see. . v 19 As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten. Therefore be zealous and repent.”
This church is full of pride, it lacks good works and charity, it has grown cold in its love toward its Saviour. I believe the “gold tried in the fire” in these verses is referring to the works we do that will come through the fire as pure gold when we stand before Him, to be judged for our works. And the pure “white garments” are the garments cleansed from all sin and pride. The “eyesalve” will help them see the truth of God’s Word, and believe it, so they are no longer stained by the continuing sinful life that many professing Christians currently live today.
Be warned, in every church, and in every denomination all around the world today, there are “Tares” living among the wheat, trying to drag the weak Christians down with them, by sowing doubt and unbelief in their hearts and minds, causing them to become foolish virgins, without the “Oil” of the Holy Spirit in their lives.
This is happening on a daily basis all around the world, the church is under pressure to bow to the demands of a godless and unbelieving world and its leaders, and as is foretold in 2 Thess 2:3 there is a great apostacy, a tremendous falling away from the Lord happening in many churches and denominations today.
At the same time the Lord continues to work, and He still has many faithfull servants continuing to work with Him, as in Act 2:47 “Praising God, and having favour with the people, and the Lord continues today also adding to the church daily such as should be saved.” (My paraphrase). To these newly “born again” Christians who are also crying out “Where are you God?” Jesus says, in Rev 3:11 “Behold, I come quickly: hold that fast which you have, so that no man takes your crown.”
Then there is another group crying out “Where are you God?” but theirs is a cry of derision, not of belief, but of mocking and scoffing. “Where are you God?” you promised thousands of years ago you would come and punish the wicked, but all things remain the same as they ever did.
“Where are you God?” you don’t exist except in the minds of a few poor fools who have been conned into believing the Bible is “God’s Word” and that everything in it is infallible.
“Where are you God?” We have mocked you, spat on your “Son” derided his offer of salvation; we have blasphemed your name and the name of Jesus; we have broken all your laws, we have lied, connived and deceived, disobeyed all your commandments, committed every sin you have named; we have been merciless, stealing from the poor, beating the weak and helpless, and falsely imprisoning the righteous, and we have delivered injustice instead of justice.
“Where are you God?” We have defiled our bodies, changed your holy laws and replaced them with evil laws; we have banned your word in our schools, taught our children that good is evil, and that evil is good; we have murdered the newly born and the unborn and called it our right; we have spread our evil ways around the world, forcing many poorer nations to follow our evil ways, if they wish to receive our help.
“Where are you God?” We have worshipped idols and false gods, and made money and possessions our gods; we have cursed your chosen people Israel, by telling the world that your holy land belongs to your enemies, and by trying to force your people to divide your land and give it back to your enemies; we have provoked you in every way that we can think of, what else can we do to provoke you, we have almost run out of ideas.
“Where are you God?” Have you forgotten your chosen people Israel; we seem to remember you saying that you gave Abraham the land of Israel as an eternal inheritance, never to be sold, and never to be given away because it is YOUR land. Well, nearly 2000 years ago the Romans divided it up and gave it away, and you didn’t stop them. Today Israel have managed to get most of it back, but today we are in the process of dividing it up again, and giving it to those who we say it belongs to, those who you call your enemies.
Sorry God but there is not much you can do about it, as we are nearly ready to force Israel into dividing their land and giving it back to your enemies again. We have turned the whole world against your people Israel, they don’t stand a chance. The whole world has united to draw up a resolution against them which will divide the land to our friends, the terrorists, Hamas, Hezbollah, Syria, and Jordan, who you call your enemies. It has taken us a long time, but now it is as good as a done deal.
And God replies in 2 Pet 3:9 “The Lord is NOT slow to do what he has promised, as some think. Instead, he is patient with you, because he does not want anyone to be destroyed, but wants all to turn away from their sins.” Psa 103:9 “But God will not always strive with us, nor will He keep His anger forever.” BECAUSE —-
Rom 1:21 “They know God, but they do not give him the honour that belongs to him, nor do they thank him. Instead, their thoughts have become complete nonsense, and their empty minds are filled with darkness. v 22 They SAY they are WISE, but they are FOOLS;”
Rom 1:24 “Therefore God gave them up to uncleanness, in the lusts of their hearts, to dishonour their bodies among themselves, v 25 they exchanged the truth of God for the lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever.” Read the full text describing these people today in Romans Ch 1:21-32 This chapter graphically portrays much of the world today, especially Western nations, and combined with 2 Tim 3:1-9 it is a perfect picture of Western and probably many other cultures in our world today.
THEREFORE says Isa 34:8 “This is the time when the LORD will rescue Zion and take vengeance on her enemies.”
So where are we today in the year 2017? I am convinced we have arrived at the day of the following verse, I believe it is just around the corner.
Isa 63:4 “For the day of vengeance is in My heart, And THE YEAR OF MY REDEEMED HAS COME.”
